The CBS drama Joan of Arcadia is the hot water-cooler topic in religious circles. At a recent Presbyterian adult education class, after participants viewed a portion of the series one member shouted out, "Wow, there's some great theology in that scene!"

He seemed surprised. Regular viewers, though, are not.

Teresa Blythe
  Teresa Blythe is a spiritual director who writes about religion and popular culture. She is co-author of the Geneva Press book Watching What We Watch: Prime-Time Television Through the Lens of Faith. Her latest book is Meeting God in Virtual Reality: Using Spiritual Practices with Media (Abingdon Press). A graduate of San Francisco Theological Seminary, Teresa works at Southside Presbyterian Church in Tucson, Ariz. She edits the "Critics' Corner" department in Presbyterians Today.
