Technical teens
Technologically savvy teens at First Presbyterian Church of Edmond, Okla., used their know-how to help raise money for their congregation. As part of Rockin’ the House, a September event that raised $40,000 overall, the youth set up a booth to answer questions about how to use iPods, cell phones or other modern communication devices.
Visitors paid $5 to have the young experts solve their gadget woes. They formatted compact flash drives, worked on cell phones and answered general computer software questions, says Bill Crouch, the church’s director of student ministries.
Church member Caitlin Zuerker, 16, saw the technology booth as a way to bridge the generation gap. “I think it’s a really neat way for the adults and the kids to come together,” she told The Daily Oklahoman.
The money they raised went toward the construction of a youth center, Habitat for Humanity projects and paying down the debt for the church’s new sanctuary, says Patty Moore, First Edmond’s capital campaign co-chair.
