International Peacemakers from 11 countries are scheduled to visit the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) from September 25 through October 19, 2009. This year’s program will contain many familiar elements. These individuals from our partner churches will share about ministries in their countries that seek justice and pursue peace in the name of Jesus Christ. At the same time, this year’s program is planned to include some new dimensions.

We will welcome the first International Peacemaker from Armenia.

We will welcome an International Peacemaker from Vietnam’s small Christian community for the first time in 14 years.

We will welcome the first International Peacemaker with expertise in ministry with the Roma people.

In addition, there will be a pilot program with the Mission Challenge ’09 event. Five International Peacemakers will team with a PC(USA) mission co-worker. Available at no additional cost, these teams will tell of ministry in Colombia, the Philippines, Sudan, Guatemala and Russia.

As always, several International Peacemakers will have ministries that focus on work with children and addressing issues that impact children.

Recognizing God’s call to live as good stewards of the planet entrusted to our care, several International Peacemakers will have expertise and experience in ministries making peace with the earth.

Who are the International Peacemakers?

International Peacemakers are leaders who are engaged in peacemaking in their own areas of the world. They are invited by the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) to visit with Presbyterians in the United States and to help us understand the peace and justice concerns of others around the world. This sharing translates into a better understanding of the peace and justice issues in our own communities.

2009 International Peacemakers

September 25 — October 19

Below is the list of International Peacemakers for 2009. Each Peacemaker page will contain downloadable information, including forms, photos and other important data. We will post information as we receive it from the Peacemakers. Please share this information with all those helping to plan the Peacemaker’s visit to your presbytery, synod, college or seminary.

What does it cost?

Presbyteries, educational institutions and other entities which host International Peacemakers are asked to pay $400 to the Presbyterian Peacemaking Program, and to provide room, board and ground transportation during your Peacemaker's visit. The Peacemaking Program will make the travel arrangements, purchase the tickets, provide honoraria and health insurance, and inform hosts/hostesses of travel schedules.
