Presbyterian Health, Education and Welfare Association contributing sponsor to national summit

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Pathways to Promise, an interfaith technical assistance and resource center, will hold its 2009 National Summit, “Companions on the Road to Recovery from Mental Illness,” September 20-October 1 in Belleville, Illinois. The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), through the Presbyterian Health, Education and Welfare Association (PHEWA), is a contributing sponsor to this event. 

Pathways to Promise provides liturgical and educational materials, program models and networking information to promote a caring ministry with people with mental illness and their families.  

Dr. Ken Thompson, with the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Adminstration (SAMHSA) will be the keynote speaker. The summit will also offer a variety of workshops, panel discussions, models of ministry networking and worship opportunities.

The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), through the Presbyterian Serious Mental Illness Network (PSMIN), a member network of the PHEWA, is represented on the Board of Directors of Pathways to Promise. Board participation provides the PC(USA) invaluable opportunities for partnership in ministry. 

The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) was among the founding members of Pathways to Promise in 1988, and has continued a significant relationship with Pathways through volunteer support and board participation through the years.
