Based in El Paso, Texas, and the state of Chihuahua, in northern
Mexico, the Pasos de Fe ministry where Mary works serves the area
of the largest border-crossing site along the U.S.-Mexico border.
Approximately 2 million people live in urban area composed of
El Paso, Texas, and Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua. Pasos de Fe's focus
is on establishing new churches in the state of Chihuahua. Mary's
ministry is to accompany mission teams (groups sent by PC(USA)
churches) to visit the communities and participate in building
projects, while learning from and worshiping with fellow Christians
in Mexico.
About 2,000 U.S. Presbyterians visit the border each year to
volunteer their services at one of the PBM mission sites. Through
PBM, an estimated 12,500 Mexicans receive health care through
mission clinics and worship at the seven mission locations.
Prior to her mission work, Mary worked from 1987 to 1995 in middle
management for a hospital. She served as supervisor of the hospital
insurance department from 1976 to 1987. The mother of two grown
daughters, Mary says her education has consisted of "one
year of college
plus life."
Mary is a member of Winter Park Presbyterian Church in Winter
Park, Florida
