| As a missionary-in-residence
in the Worldwide Ministries Division from August 2002 to March
2004, Layne worked with the area office for the Middle East, the
Interfaith Office, and the Office of Global Education and International
leadership development. Among her responsibilities were mission
interpretation, the Interfaith Listening Project, and being liaison
with church-related organizations and NGOs in Israel, Palestine,
and Egypt.
She served four years (1997 to 2001) in Jerusalem, the West Bank,
and Israel as site coordinator for the Young Adult Volunteer program.
When that was closed during the second Intifada, she served for
a year with CEOSS, the Coptic Evangelical Organization for Social
Services, in Cairo, Egypt. She was the international coordinator
and worked on funds development.
Prior to her service in Jerusalem, Layne was a development assistant
for AMERC, the Appalachian Ministries Resource Center in Berea,
Kentucky. From 1993 to1996, while attending McCormick Theological
Seminary in Chicago, Illinois, Layne was a teaching assistant
and English tutor. She graduated from McCormick with her MDiv
degree and was ordained to the ministry of Word and Sacrament
in Fairmount Presbyterian Church in Cleveland Heights, Ohio. During
seminary, Layne had two summer internships in San Francisco, California,
one with Old First Presbyterian Church and the other with California
Pacific Medical Center. Before attending seminary, Layne attended
Berea College in Berea, Kentucky, and worked as a teaching assistant
there as well. She graduated with a BA degree in history and philosophy.
Prior to college, Layne worked in sales for Prudential Bache and
Smith Barney, both in Cleveland, Ohio.
Layne is a minister member of Western Reserve Presbytery. She
is the mother of two adult children.
