Elisabeth was appointed as a long-term international volunteer in July 2000 to work at Saintfield Road Presbyterian Church in Belfast. She works with young people from 16 to 25—the time when many young people stop coming to church—and has responsibility for discipleship, building community, and creating programs to maintain their involvement in the community of faith.

Elisabeth began volunteer work with youth and children during college and first worked full-time in children’s ministry at University Presbyterian Church (UPC) in Seattle, Washington, during a college summer. She began as a youth-worker with high school students in Seattle later that year and served two years as intern and staff in youth mission and ministry at University Presbyterian Church.

During her work at UPC, Elizabeth took six high-school students on a short-term mission trip to Northern Ireland. The group helped staff the summer day camp programs run by a collaboration of Scripture Union and several local churches. Elizabeth got to know pastors and elders in the area, which eventually led her to hear a new call to journey with the youth of Belfast.

She holds a degree in English literature and French from Whitworth College in Spokane, Washington.

Both First Presbyterian Church in Berkeley, California, Elisabeth’s childhood church, and University Presbyterian Church in Seattle are warmly supporting Elisabeth. She is a member of University Presbyterian Church.
