Dorothy ended her term of service in July 2009.

In January 2005, Dorothy Russell Hanson commenced a three-year
term of service as a consultant on AIDS in East Africa. She lives
in Ethiopia and works in the coordinating office of the Ethiopian
Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus (EECMY) where policy and education
are provided in the fight to prevent HIV/AIDS. She also works
with the Presbyterian Church of East Africa.
Dorothy is one of two AIDS consultants serving in Africa with
the PC(USA). The other is
Janet Guyer in southern Africa.
Dorothy has the perfect background to undertake this ministry,
having 40 years experience as a nurse, a teacher, and a teacher
of nurses. Prior to her appointment, Dorothy worked with the PC(USA)’s
International Health Ministries Office as coordinator of the church’s
response to the international AIDS pandemic.
Before joining PC(USA)’s
national staff in 2002, Dorothy worked for the Arizona Department
of Health Services. From 1997 to 2002, she was program manager
for the Office of Women’s and Children’s Health, providing
both instruction and licenses to Arizona midwives. Concurrently,
and since 1985, Dorothy was on the faculty of the University of
Phoenix, teaching nutrition, health, development, health law and
ethics, and communication. |
