Kyle ended his term of service as a long-term volunteer with the Amity Foundation on July 31, 2008.

Kyle Fryling was appointed in June 2006 to serve as an English teacher with the Amity Foundation in China, where he serves at Nanning Junior Teachers College in Longzhou.

Kyle teaches oral English classes to English majors who themselves will become English teachers. When their three years of college are complete many will return to their poor rural villages and teach middle-school students. In China, English is very important and often required for admission into college. Students coming from poor areas tend to get poorer instruction in English than their urban counterparts, which reduces their chance of going to college and their opportunities. The Amity Foundation’s help to the English education of poor, rural students is one way Amity helps break the cycles of poverty in China.

Kyle teaches in the town of Longzhou in Guangxi province in the south of China, about an hour’s drive north of Vietnam. The town has roughly 70,000 inhabitants and is surrounded by sugar cane fields and mountains. The population is made up primarily of minority groups. Beyond a rough life as a poor farmer, few opportunities exist in this part of China.

Kyle first felt the call to China as a college student when he went to China to study at a university in southwest China. He became aware of the extreme income inequalities and spiritual longing of many Chinese people.

Prior to coming to China Kyle was a marketing associate at Highland Capital Brokerage in Seattle, Washington.

Kyle is a graduate of Seattle Pacific University with a bachelor’s degree in business.

Kyle spent most of his life in northern California where his family still lives. Now he calls Seattle home and is a member of the Jubilee Christian Center there.

Birthday: October 14
