Diane and John were appointed in January 2004 to serve as program coordinators at Laredos Unidos, one of the seven sites along the U.S.-Mexico border that together form the Presbytery Border Ministries, a joint project of the PC(USA) and the National Presbyterian Church of Mexico.

The Laredos Unidos site has two offices, one in the city of Nuevo Laredo in Tamaulipas, Mexico, and one in Laredo, Texas. The Davises coordinate the many mission teams that come from all over the United States to work on projects that benefit the communities served by Laredos Unidos. They’re also responsible for “mission education,” a key part of the program that allows mission teams to reflect on their experience working in the midst of poverty in light of Scripture.

Both John and Diane have been active in their local church, Pleasant Hills Community Presbyterian Church in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Most recently the Davises have been deeply committed to “Godsend,” for which they led mission groups to Juarez, Mexico, from 1998 to 2002.

“My faith has grown greatly in the years I have been involved with short-term mission,” writes John. “In the last five years I have learned to trust God for everything—from simple provisions, for answered prayers, and for salvation for the people I worked with in Mexico.”

Prior to their call to work in Laredo, Diane was an administrative assistant to the senior pastor at Pleasant Hills Community Presbyterian Church in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where both she and John are members. Before that, Diane worked for 16 years with Waldenbooks regional offices. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Robert Morris University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

John worked for the County of Allegheny as a personal computer and communications engineer (2002-2003), as a consultant with Keane, Inc. (1997-2002), as accounting manager for Hamburg Brothers (1988-1996), and with various positions for Allegheny International (1965-1988). He holds a master’s of science degree in information science from the University of Pittsburgh.
