The Bauerbands ended their term of service in November 2004. When their schedule permits, they're willing to speak. See contact information above.

The Bauerbands began their first term as a PC(USA) family in mission in January 2000 and were commissioned to mission service in absentia by the 212th General Assembly in Long Beach, California, the following June. Larry is a lecturer in practical theology at the Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Kumba, Cameroon, a seminary of the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon (PCC), an English-speaking denomination in western Cameroon. Anna’s ministry is through the home.

The Bauerbands spent the first nine months of their mission service in Quebec learning French. This helped prepare them for life in a different culture. "Now that we have been in Cameroon for a year," says Larry, "we have made most of those initial adjustments (I hope!) necessary in cultural transition. And yes, we are very happy in this new home and work, though the luxuries are few.

Letters from

"We are grateful for the location of our home, which is on the far edge of the seminary campus. The location has enabled us to befriend families from the village and not just be isolated in the seminary compound. Most of our children’s friends are from the village. We feel we get the best of both worlds, being a part of this wonderful seminary community and also getting to know our neighbors in the village.

"We feel blessed to be a part of the life and work here at the Presbyterian Theological Seminary and to be working with the fine people of the PCC. We have found Cameroonians to be a warm, friendly, and most hospitable people. The students are eager to learn and grateful for the opportunity to dialogue with those from other parts of the world.

"The PCC has many hopes and dreams for this seminary. The leaders hope that in the near future they will add a master’s degree program. There is certainly a great need for more pastors—most pastors must care for five or six congregations. There is room for more students at the seminary, but due to financial restraints the seminary is unable to admit more students.

"The economic difficulties in Cameroon affects the amount the average parishioner is able to give. Thus, the PCC can’t go all out in providing training to pastors, educators, and leaders to the churches and denomination as a whole. We are grateful for the contribution we are able to make in the training of pastors and to the overall work of the PCC."

Larry was associate pastor at First Presbyterian Church in Manasquan, New Jersey, from 1993 to 1999. From August 1990 to July 1992, he was intern pastor at First Presbyterian Church in Kinston, North Carolina, and rom September 1988 to May 1989, Larry was student pastor at Community Presbyterian Church of the Sand Hills in Kendall Park, New Jersey. From September 1987 to May 1988, he was a chaplain in a domestic violence shelter, Womanspace, in Lawrenceville, New Jersey.

Larry has a bachelor of arts degree in speech and religion from Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana, and a master’s of divinity in practical theology from Princeton Theological Seminary in Princeton, New Jersey.

Larry was ordained as an elder in 1973 at Attica-Williamsport Presbyterian Church and was ordained to the Ministry of Word and Sacrament in 1993 in the Presbytery of Monmouth. Larry’s committee work in the presbytery focused on youth activities. When in New Jersey, the family attends the First Presbyterian Church of Caldwell.
