Friends,
Happy April!
March is now past and we’re into my favorite month of the year. March brought many wonderful things. At the preschool we studied dinosaurs! We had an electronic visitor, Spike the stegosaurus, in the pre-K class. The children loved playing with him and even learned a song about a stegosaurus. I especially enjoyed helping the children create a multi-colored dinosaur that they cut out themselves. We’re working hard on those cutting skills! Spring is present in the 1- to 2-year-old classroom. We’ve been making caterpillars and coloring spring pictures in anticipation. We’re able to go outside again for a good portion of the day and the children love it. We talk about the things around us such as cars, plants, and small animals. I caught a little lizard for the children one day and a green frog the next. It was such fun to talk about the critters and see their eyes light up with excitement! The 1-year-olds have been working on the five senses and shapes. We just moved onto smell, and the children love sticking their little noses into everything we offer.
Working at the office has been interesting as well. I performed my first vacation Bible school skit during the children’s sermon on the 22nd and everyone had a good laugh watching me dressed up in a Hawaiian shirt and a child’s crocodile floaty. People in the congregation are coming out of the woodwork to volunteer. Please keep praying for this endeavor and all the people involved.
I’ve also been working hard on publicity, creating banners and posters, and updating the Web site. We had a stellar speaker come to talk about the economy on the 31st, our Sunset Sunday was a smash due to the UNO jazz guitar ensemble and the Laurentian Singers from St. Louis brought in a nice little crowd to their performance.
The Faith Connection has been growing! I think we might have enough children to form another age group next year. We finished up the Great Commandment and moved onto studying Holy Week. Purchasing Kid Pix for our tiny computer lab was a stunning success! They loved creating their own Holy Week pictures to show everyone and the program itself is just incredibly fun. I recently held an Easter egg hunt that had the children running, screaming and laughing. Actually, that’s normal for us!
March also brought me to Decatur, Georgia, along with fellow YAV Duncan, for a “Volunteers Exploring Vocation conference.” It brought one-year volunteers from different denominations all over the country together to talk about vocational discernment. I had a wonderful time and have many new things to ponder.
I pray that April finds all of you well.
With love in Christ,
Alicia Weber
