Building relationships
A growing number of congregations are sensing a greater connection to international mission because they have developed a relationship with an international mission worker. As part of World Mission Challenge, we are asking every congregation to establish a relationship with one or more PC(USA) mission worker. A relationship consists of three components:
Pray for the mission worker in worship, small groups and as individuals. Keep abreast of their concerns by reading their letters on Mission Connections.
Assign a member to be in regular contact with the mission worker. Post letters from the mission worker on the church bulletin board and/or Web site. Include updates about the mission worker in the church newsletter.
Ask the session to include support for the mission worker in the church budget. Information on how to support mission workers financially is available through the Giving Opportunities Catalog . A pledge form is also available.

Choosing a mission worker
Congregations may establish a relationship with any mission worker, but many select one assigned to a country where their congregation or presbytery has a mission partnership. Other congregations choose a mission worker who has ties to the region where the congregation is located. This makes it easier for the mission worker to visit the congregation when he or she is in the United States on home assignments. To find out which mission workers have ties to which states, contact KT Ockels.
Congregations may be helped in their selection by visiting the home pages of PC(USA) mission personnel on the Mission Connections Web site. Congregations can tell mission personnel about their desire to establish a relationship by emailing them from the link to their email found on the home page of each mission worker.
Due to security reasons, mission personnel serving in Central Asia and some other regions of the world do not have Web pages. For information on these personnel contact KT Ockels. |
