Calling Presbyterians to make
just immigration a reality

In light of President Obama’s gathering of selected members of congress on June 25 following months of pressure from businesses and immigrant communities, it seems as though the time for Comprehensive Immigration Reform could be right. After years of congress resisting action, debate is nearly at fever pitch levels and all sides agree that the immigration policies of the United States are broken.

In order to help congregations prepare for media coverage that is filled with misleading sound bites and what can become aggressive rhetoric, the Office of Immigration Issues has prepared resource materials. While the issue of immigration is complicated and multi-faceted, we hope that you will find these handouts useful as a good place to start dispelling myths about immigration and immigrant communities.

Each handout covers an aspect of immigration policy and offers relevant scripture, insight, and ends with a prayer. Feel free to use these handouts in Bible studies or with civic organizations to help educate your community. For more information contact Dana Dages at (800) 728-7228 x5202. Please check back as more resources will be added as they come available and these handouts will be updated as necessary. If you have ideas for resource handouts, please contact our office.

PFJI is a network of Presbyterians interested in various immigration issues and how these issues impact their communities, churches and presbyteries. PFJI is committed to fostering discussion, sharing resources, promoting advocacy, and writing liturgy on various immigration topics. As large numbers of people enter the United States and participate in our communities and churches, members of PFJI hope to empower Presbyterians to share vision, best practices, resources, and a passionate concern for those coming to the United States to live and work.
